Went around the room - How has technology changed in your field?
  • Sam talked about data networks
  • I talked about online resources
  • Miriam talked about calculator projectors
  • Jason talked about telescopes and rockets
Story about Sam's love/curiosity in seeing how things work - taking things apart, putting them back together.  His parents were always concerned about it, but it was the best way for him to learn.  
  • I added my 2 cents about finding extra screws when I finish working on cars.

STEM Class 3

Late to class, making sure Wade had things to work on.  Raining, came it wet.  Second pass on Geology vocabulary.

  • Sam Story - in Minn.  Man-made grand canyon in a little town.  Unbelievable how big it is, created to mine iron ore.
Picked up coffee afterwards next to Gracies.  
  • Jessica signed that she had just finished a coffee

STEM Class 2

I parked in temp 20 min. parking - no ticket (phew).  Discussed Geology related vocabulary.  Sam was wearing a pink shirt, and the woman that looks like Tommi ate breakfast in class and asked the most questions.  Sam told some great stories.
  • Context related vocabulary
    • (contrast, opposite, reaction, allergy)
    • (plastic and flexible)
  • Variations of fire
    • (burn up, wildfire, kindle, campfire)
  • How can we save energy?
    • recycle water, dont print unnecessary things
    • Sam story:  In 1973, public announcement to conserve energy - student didn't do HW.

    • climate = weather
    • Sam story:  Lived in all 4 corners of America
      • born in Tenn: mountains and trees
      • grew up in Ind: flat
      • moved to CA: mountains and ocean
      • school and work in Rochester: cold!
